Industry Responsibility

Counterfeit products soil brands that have been built with trust, dedication and vast resources over time. In addition to eroding profitability, counterfeiters put genuine manufacturers at risk via increased product liability and detrimental legal action. It is thus laudable that most manufacturers have pro-actively embraced product security as an integral component of product development and evolution.

The most popular form of security used today is holograms, with RFID being strongly pushed by the United States as the new line of defense against counterfeiting. Unfortunately, holograms (while cheap) are routinely counterfeited and RFID is well beyond the means of the already stretched budgets typical of developing nations. This has prompted mPedigree to work with its collaborators in developing a novel cellular authentication method that allows greater security at a lower cost than all other comparable product security offerings. Such technology, developed specifically for developing nations, has been successfully validated in a trial mPedigree carried out.

Tailor-made Responses

No two companies are alike. With a myriad of products offered on a very dynamic market, anti-counterfeit technologies require evolutionary designs that are flexible enough to meet the needs of each manufacturer, while offering a uniform brand of assurance via the 1393 SMS shortcode.
Authentication Response Authentication Response

Messages sent as responses to authentication requests are fully customizable down to the unit-level, allowing for great flexibility in meeting the varied needs of clients in educationally heterogeneous environments like developing nations. Simple responses like "OK" or "NO" for low literacy environments provide the basic assurance that drugs being consumed are genuine, with appropriate information provided to avert unfortunate deaths by inauthentic drugs.

Anti-diversion Technologies

One chief complaint received by Non-Profits and Non Governmental Agencies is the lack of accountability post-delivery of drug donations and relief supplies. Indeed, scalable electronic data aggregation systems designed for low literacy environments are not readily available, allowing some agencies with ill-intent to conceal illegal drug sales and encourage parallel trade.
Anti-diversion Tracking
With mPedigree's collaborative technology, donors can safely monitor drugs from the Internet via the "track-n-trace" add-on to the basic authentication module. Donors can now be assured that supplies being delivered and not diverted to potentially fund unknown activities.

In addition, mPedigree collaboratively offers solutions that provide:
  • Epidemic tracking via drug uptake numeration
  • Drug recalls based on expiry date notification
  • Geographical impact assessment for increased accountability
